P90X Results

So you want to know what I think about the X? Here's my own personal review on the program.

First, you should read my entire bio. In case you're in a hurry, the short version goes something like this… I spent my entire life with zero muscle mass. Morbidly obese, shopping in the big and tall section. I had tried the occasional few months on the treadmill. The guzzling of slim-fast and fat burner pills. But I really didn't see the light until I found Power 90 last year. Power 90 is certainly not as intense as P90X, but it helped me reverse 26 years of obesity in 90 days. It's a great program for teaching someone the fundamentals of proper diet and exercise. A complete package that builds a basis for the next level, P90X.

In my opinion, if you are someone who is already ripped at 7% body fat… X can offer you variety, but it's not going to be a game changer. I did show P90X to a bodybuilder friend of mine and he liked it so much that he started doing it. However, I would expect a properly designed workout and diet by a personal trainer to give you the same sort of results. Albeit, for a lot more money out of your pocket! On the other hand, P90X has the power to teach a complete fitness dummy (like me) everything he/she needs to know to become that ripped 7% BF person. The program includes a guidebook that really simplifies proper nutrition. This covers proper caloric intake levels, ratios of carbs/protein/fat, proper food choices, how to listen to your body's needs, etc. It even breaks things down into a simple portioning plan, if you choose to go that route. This went a long way in teaching me the fundamentals of a "clean" diet.

Then, of course, there are the workouts. P90X really mixes things up with Tony Horton's "muscle confusion" concept. There are 3 muscle group weight training days, not unlike a normal lifting day at the gym. Along with those, there are also 2 great cardio workouts and increased flexibility with power yoga once a week. Plyometrics (jump training) is definitely the most intense workout I have ever seen. My first run through, on an empty stomach, I found myself running to the bathroom to dry heave. Also, many people knock yoga, but this isn't what you think of when you think of yoga. Not to mention it makes you feel like a million bucks. Most everything in the workouts can be modified for people who are injured or simply not yet up to the task. Also, at specific points, there are recovery weeks and the workout schedule is shuffled with a couple of workouts added/removed. This keeps your body guessing. I know this by the DOMS I get that first week after I change it up!

The biggest selling points of P90X for me are:
• I can work out at home whenever it is convenient for me. No drive time, no waiting for equipment.
• The workouts are legit. The results are similar to what I'd get with a personal trainer.
• I can work out by myself, or in a group. It only really requires dumbells and a pull up bar. So, there's no need for a spotter on any workout.
• The workout schedule and diet are all planned for you, there is no guesswork. To formulate a plan this effective on your own would take a lot of time and energy with trial and error.
• I can talk to other people who have done 1 to 8+ rounds (90 days) of P90X and see their results. The forums at Beachbody are great for motivation & help.

Just like any other workout regimen… If you stick with it and work your butt off, you will see killer results. That part is guaranteed, or your money back!
